Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
In keeping with the Jesuit philosophy of holistic development, every student of St. Xavier’s College is required to earn compulsory non-academic credits in the form of ‘ECC hours’ over the course of their undergraduate programme apart from the mandatory academic credits. The ‘ECC Committee’ comprises of a dedicated team of faculty members and students, helps facilitate the completion of these ECC hours.

To provide an opportunity/platform for students to explore and enhance their creative potential, through various events and activities in the form of festivals, editing and publishing journals (magazines/newsletters), workshops and seminars etc. throughout the year.

To provide opportunities to hone their talent and skills by managing all the extra-curricular societies.

Enhance leadership and coordination amongst ‘student contingents’ representing St. Xavier’s College in various festivals, events, debates etc. Students for the contingent are selected through well publicised auditions for the respective event.

To keep an official record of ECC hours completed by the student and guide student accordingly.

In the heart of St. Xavier’s College, nestled within its heritage arches and timeless corridors, breathes a soul called the Extracurricular Committee fondly known as ECC. It is not merely a committee; it is a canvas. A vibrant, ever-evolving mosaic where culture, expression, and leadership converge to celebrate the full spirit of student life.
ECC is the guardian of the college’s artistic conscience a body that safeguards and nurtures the many hues of student creativity. With eleven departments under its expansive wing, ECC is both the stage and the storyteller for the rich traditions and contemporary voices of Xavier’s.
From the evocative monologues of Fitoor, the Theatre Society, to the piercing clarity of thought in the Debating Society; from the classical rhythms of Indian Performing Arts - Music and Dance to the modern pulse of Western Performing Arts music that sways and dance that stirs each department is a verse in this living poem. Xavier’s Film Society captures memory in motion, while Fine Arts paints it into permanence. Literary Arts (LA) gives breath to words, and Learning for Life (LFL) makes knowledge intimate and experiential. The Yoga Committee invites stillness in the whirlwind, a call inward in a world that rushes outward.
But ECC is not just the celebration of art; it is the architecture that holds it up.
Behind every spotlight, every open mic, every echo of applause, there is meticulous machinery, a collection of operational departments that work quietly, persistently, with the elegance of a well-tuned orchestra.
The Finance Department teaches more than budgeting; it teaches balance of vision and practicality, of dreams and deliverables. The Administration Team, diligent and deliberate, manages room bookings, ECC counts, registrations anchoring the ever-floating world of events to the realm of reality. The Public Relations Department lends the committee its voice in the world, ensuring every celebration, every initiative, every triumph reaches its audience.
The Film and Documentation Team (FND) captures not just events, but emotion. Through frames and edits, they chronicle the legacy ECC leaves year after year. Venue Management ensures every act finds its stage, every brushstroke its gallery, every voice its mic. And behind it all, the Technical Team, the unseen pulse, powers and sustains the spectacle.
Together, these departments do more than function they foster leadership. ECC is a crucible where students do not just witness the art of administration and coordination, but live it. Here, passion meets precision. Here, a student learns not only how to dream, but how to deliver. Not only how to lead, but how to listen.
